Hongyi Chen Wins Prize at The Graduate Art Show 2025

MA Fine Art: Photography graduate Hongyi Chen (Camberwell College of Arts, UAL) has been awarded a prize at The Graduate Art Show 2025 for her contemplative series Folds of Stillness. The work is presented as a constellation of large, medium, and small pieces (from 50 × 28 × 5 cm to 25 × 14 × 5 cm), combining UV print on acrylic and clear polyester film.

Chen’s practice explores where inner experience and the external world meet, using light, reflection, and shadow to evoke time, emotion, and impermanence.

Grounded in meditation and a slow, intuitive process, Folds of Stillness treats the photographic image as spatial and architectural, influenced by artist Alex Hartley. Transparent, glass-like surfaces create boundaries that are physical yet see-through—intimate yet unreachable—inviting viewers to reflect on memory, thresholds, and how we see and feel across time.
